The idea for Middish originally came to Matt in a dream in early 2008. His vision was of a wiki for translations, with a focus on providing context and usage examples. The idea evolved over time and has since become something of an obsession, eventually becoming what you see today.
During the summer of 2009 (or the summer of Middish, as it would come to be known), Matt and Wayne released Middish to the public. With the generous support of Middlebury's Stonehenge Committee, it has now become the most popular website in the world.

Middish is built on Rails with Heroku. In building Middish, we realized what our true killer app is -- we're developing it as you read this! Want to know more? Ask us!
Credits
Our machine translation is courtesy of Google's AJAX Language API (although we pull it sans javascript). Our English-Chinese database is uploaded from CC-CEDICT under the CC-BY-SA 3 license. Over 20,000 of the translations uploaded onto Middish were pulled from dict.cn. We think we're following all terms of use properly, please let us know if we're not!
